Connect Google
Marlow uses Google to see which visits turn into enquiries and to run your ads. If you already have these accounts, skip to Connect to Marlow. Google changes its screens from time to time, so if a button has moved, tell Marlow what you see in the chat.
Google Analytics (GA4)
- Go to analytics.google.com and sign in with the Google account you want to own it.
- Choose Create, then Account, and name it after your business. Then create a Property (set the UK time zone and pounds).
- Choose Web as the data stream, enter your website address and a name.
- Google shows a Measurement ID starting with G-. Add it to your website, either in your site builder's Analytics setting or through Tag Manager.
- Visit your site and check the Realtime report shows you.
Google's own guide: set up Analytics for a website.
Google Tag Manager (optional)
Tag Manager is a container that lets you add tracking without editing your site each time. It's useful, not essential.
- Go to tagmanager.google.com and choose Create Account. Add your business name, country and a container name, and pick Web.
- Add the two snippets Google gives you to your website (one in the head, one just after the opening body tag). Most site builders have a box for the GTM ID instead.
- In the container, add a Google tag with your G- Measurement ID, trigger it on All Pages, then Submit and publish.
Google's guide: install a container.
Google Ads
- Go to ads.google.com and sign in.
- Google pushes you to build a campaign. You don't need to: look for the option to switch to Expert Mode and create an account without a campaign.
- Set your business name, website, country (United Kingdom), time zone and currency (pounds). Currency can't be changed later.
- Add a payment method when asked. Your ad spend is billed by Google, not by Marlow.
Connect to Marlow
In Marlow, open the Google step and sign in with the Google account that owns these tools. For Google Ads, Marlow sends a link request that you accept inside Google Ads (look under Admin, then Access and security, or the notification bell). You never share a password, and you can remove the link at any time.
